when i started at this job, our curriculum was pretty much a long list of vocabulary words that the kids should know at different class levels along with some questions that they should be able to answer (e.g. "what's your name?" "how old are you?") we're working to improve that, but that's what i s...

teaching to be big brother/sister ideas?

in my current class, 11/12 of the students are older than 2.5, are quite independent, and speak fairly good english, considering their age. they've mastered the required vocabulary for their level and we've been working on additional vocabulary and using full sentences. come november, half of my cla...

you've only had 6 lessons with him. this may not be enough time for him to feel comfortable around you yet. i wouldn't worry about it too much. i've had kids not speak for much longer than this. :D however, i understand the feeling like you're talking to yourself. perhaps you can try playing games w...

haha. i'm glad to say that i've never been there. but give us some more details and i'm sure we can help you out. for example: 1. are you the only teacher in the classroom? do you speak their language or have an assistant who speaks the native language? 2. what materials do you have to work with? fl...

you can also have them role-play common english-speaking scenarios--my kids like "shopping". also, if you can, see what types of things they act out on their own. for example, my kids like to make a train with the chairs in the classroom and so i sometimes incorporate that into my lesson. love, shan...

devon's said some great things about the theory behind teaching such young children. i've got a few ideas that work for me in the classroom. (i regularly teach 2 year olds, and teach mommy/daddy and me classes to younger kids) 1. for conversation things, use a puppet. i use a pink rabbit called "yip...

sorry it's taken so long to respond. i've recently had too many kids in my class and have just been absolutely exhausted at the end of each day. this is not my class and i'm going to bring up your points/questions with the kindergarten teacher to see what she has to say. what i can say is that...

the first thing that comes to my mind is this great program that the kinder teacher at our school has been doing with her kids (she teaches in the 4-6 age range, whereas my focus is the 2-3 year olds). every week, they learn about a new country, following the letters of the alphabet (A=australia, B=...

i understand how frustrating this can be. here are some things that have worked for me: 1. you probably have some sort of set structure for your lesson. try switching up the order of things. for example, if you usually end the class with singing and dancing, try starting the class with singing and d...

anyone teach preschool?

i primarily teach 2 year olds and also have classes with children even younger than that.
i'd really like to bounce ideas around with other teachers who teach a similar age level, but don't see a place on this forum for preschool discussion.
anyone around?
love,
shannon
