Visa Regulations?

Hello :)
I am currently looking at TEFL in China with my partner and have been forwarded a couple of contracts. Not so much wrong with those, i just have a question.

When applying for a Z Visa, do you need a degree?

If so, i don't have one. How do i legally work in China without a Z Visa?

These are my questions too...also I read on a TESL certifications website that Americans are not getting visas approved at the airports coming into the country. Is this current and true?
I'm American without BA...can i get a z visa?
