Language Functions for Adults

Post by ellen523 » Wed Jun 04, 2003 12:33 pm

Do you prefer using the language functions first more than languange notions in your teaching?

My students whose age are over 30 like to learn what they can apply to their daily lives practically, not just learn the concepts or theories of ESL. They feel that the language funcitons for learning is useful and interesting to gain what they acquired and kept it in mind simply. But I think, being a teacher, it's my obligation to give them some language notions first then just get into the language functions. What do you think of this?

Your any kinds of suggestions or responses to this topic will be highly appreciated.
