Texts on theory and practice of language teaching

Post by Shomon » Tue Nov 21, 2006 1:08 am

Hello,

I'm looking for text books on the theory and practice of language/English teaching.

I am a psychology graduate so I don't have many problems reading academic style texts. I have taught English for one year in S Korea.

I am hoping to give myself a more solid grounding as an EFL teacher (I didn't really get any training in Korea). I will probably take a TESOL course next year.

Books I am considering at the moment are:

Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching (2nd Ed) - Jack Richards & Theodore Rodgers

Making it Happen: from Interactive to Participatory Language Teaching (3rd Ed) - Patricia Richard- Amato

Principles of Language, Learning and Teaching (5th Ed) - H. Douglas Brown

Teaching by Principles: An Interactive Approach to Language Pedagogy (2nd Ed) - H. Douglas Brown

Teaching How to Learn: Learning Strategies in ESL - Ken Willing

I would love to hear about your opinions of these texts and/or other texts you have found useful in guiding your teaching, understanding the language learning process and inspiring you.

Thanks to all those who reply.
