In a card game:
"The cards were dealt for the last hand."
I think I understand the first part. I wonder
what 'for the last hand' means here.

Yes, but the agreement could have been made earlier. For example, we will play 20 hands, or we will play until 10:00. (I'm not sure if that was part of your question or not, but they will play one mnore time and that will be all.)
