MATESL versus MA in English with concentration in TESOL

Post by AsturianaCarrion » Wed Apr 20, 2011 3:54 am

I have been teaching ESL for about 6 months and I want to eventually work at the university level in an IELP. I have been offered a grad. teaching assistantship for a MA in English with a concentration in TESOL. I have also been offered a GTA for a MA in TESL, but at a slightly lesser quality school. I have been told that the MATESL degree is preferable over the MA English with TESOL concentraton because potential employers would look at my degree and think of literature. Do you agree with this? What kinds of jobs are out there for this degree if it's not the best degree to have in order to teach in an IELP? I'm having a hard time finding any resources for answers to this question. I'd appreciate any insight you might have. Thanks![/b]
