Six Word Memoirs

Post by satter06 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:27 am

Writing and speaking are two of the four essential skills that students need in order to master English. Like any skill, students in a classroom can be at varying levels. A great project which can be adapted very easily for all levels is Six Word Memoirs. Smith Magazine asked teenagers to submit a memoir about themselves in just 6 words. Students only write 6 words that can connect together in a sentence or not, therefore it is ideal for students that are at a low level for writing. Even those at a higher level can benefit because they have to focus on the main subject for their memoir. Then by having students compile several 6 word memoirs about themselves into a powerpoint presentation, students are able to connect these to their life even more so by putting symbols and pictures of themselves into the powerpoint. The speaking component comes in because students can present the powerpoints, explain any slides that they would like and even answer questions about them. This is a great way to get students to incorporate themselves in a lesson while working on essential skills.
