In the past, if I showed my students a movie, I would type up the dialogue first and read some of the scenes with the class during the video.

Example: Read a 5 minute scene, watch that scene. Then continue watching the movie and at some point pause it, read the next scene before watching it, rinse and repeat.

That way I felt like they were actively engaged participants rather than passive observers.
