Dual-language programs seem to be a great way to teach all students to respect cultures and languages and to close the achievement gap. However, more needs to be done in order to do this and to meet the needs of the EL population, perhaps, revisiting the NCLB act and changing it.

I also think dual language immersion is a great idea but many districts, especially the larger inner city ones, will not buy into it. It would not be very cost effective for them because more teachers would have to be hired to teach in the languages necessary to satisfy the student population. In addition, new texts and materials would have to be bought. I did a quick search on the web and found a few charter schools offering this type of program. Also, the student population is relatively small at these schools.
