I am a independent filmmaker whose film, PAPER WORDS, a 3D-animated short film, will be airing nationally as part of the program:
GLOBAL VOICES on Feb 26, 2011 on public broadcast television.
I am spreading the word about this broadcast to communities that might be interested. This is a unique film that seems to resonate with many people, especially with immigrants and teachers. Many people have shared their personal stories with me after seeing the film because there really aren't many films like PAPER WORDS out there. It is a story about what happens to one girl when bilingual resources aren't available to her. It's also a very entertaining and fun film to watch.

The Story:
Five-year-old Mei, a girl from China, spends much of her time at school frozen to the corner of her new classroom in America. She won’t talk, she won’t play, and she never looks the teacher in the eye. Her teacher knows that something is amiss, but what? Mei spends much of her time in her garden, examining the tiny world of insects or talking to her doll Peipei. But Mei’s mother is very concerned by a parent-teacher conference revealing her daughter’s anti-social behavior. She must somehow engineer a clever way to expose the real Mei to the rest of the world.
This short is based loosely on a compilation of common immigrant stories and themes. PAPER WORDS’ colorfully rich sets married with an enchanting musical score provide the backdrop for this universal story that transcends the usual boundaries of time and place.
