Hello,
I'm confused about the usage of the word "reason". In sentences number one and two, do I need to use the word "a", or are the sentences grammatically correct both ways? Also, is sentence number three grammatically correct?
1. My boss fired me without "a" reason.
2. I have "a" good reason for hating you.
3. My boss fired me for no reason. |

| You should be able to work these out for yourself if you consult a few ELT dictionaries. I'd suggest starting with the Oxford Advanced Learner's (available for free online) in this case, although the Longman DOCE, Cambridge ALD, Macmillan ED, and Merriam-Webster Learner's are obviously all worth a look too. |
