Selecting Textbooks. Materials and Resources

Post by RachelMHansen » Tue May 29, 2012 4:11 pm

In September I will be a new ESL teacher at a K-6 school. The book that I am currently reading, in preparation, suggests evaluating a reading program based upon: textbooks and materials used to support the curriculum, classroom methodology, student performance, etc. Obviously, there are already textbooks being used to support the existing curriculum. Aside from the basic assessments, what can I look for to ensure that the best textbooks are being used? If the textbooks are less than effective (and I cannot change the selection) what additional resources can I use to support my curriculum? If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
