Volunteer for ESL Family Literacy program

Post by marier4him » Fri Aug 24, 2012 1:49 pm

Hi,

I am strongly considering taking over the ESL side of a family literacy program. It is an unpaid position, but it would give me valuable experience, help my nearly empty resume, and help me make a lot of contacts. Helping people goes without saying since it is the reason we all teach in the first place.

My responsibilities for starters would be to set up assessments, attendance, and teach the volunteer tutors to make lesson plans and get them some training. No pressure, right? There is some funding for curriculum, but I don't know what they have yet. I will find out on Wednesday when I tour the facility.

Any initial advice links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :P
