Billingual Education & American Cultural Norms

Although I lived in the United States, I was a student there many years ago, and have been back countless times. I was wondering what the general consensus would be in this forum on the following question: Your student is a new bilingual learner who has difficulties understanding American cultural communication norms. How you would support your student’s growth on a nonverbal communication level?
