Initial Diagnostic Assessment

Post by LittleLamb » Mon May 13, 2013 10:18 pm

Hi, I posted a message in the "Assessments" section, but I thought I might get some tips here, as well.

I am teaching a beginning-level adult grammar course, and I need recommendations for an initial diagnostic assessment. Any advice/resources will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Little Lamb,
I, too, had the exact same problem when I started teaching English abroad. I was never able to find any good diagnostic tests that were free or cheap so I had to just make them up myself, through a lot of trial and error. Thus, I really sympathize with you. You can check at the diagnostic test at www.bilinguallearner.com since it's cheap and effective. The only other thing I know of is the diagnostic tests we use here in the US public school systems, such as TELPAS. However, it is a Pearson product, so probably expensive and I don't know if you could find any free resources to it. You might try looking here:

Good luck!
