still looking for ideas!

Post by sjh » Mon Oct 03, 2016 10:20 pm

I posted the following a short while ago:

A 4th grader from Ukraine just arrived at our school; he does not speak or read English but has strong literacy skills in Ukrainian, some in Russian. I would love any ideas on best places to begin. So much to teach as he will be going to middle school next year!!

I want to add that he only received one hour of English instruction per week in the 2nd and 3rd grade while in Ukraine, so he basically does not know any of the letters or letter-sound correspondences of the Roman alphabet.

Thanks much for your input and ideas!
