I’ve begun a new thread here because the original thread on this issue was back in January and I think the people involved in posting to that thread may not look there again after so long.

The easiest way, I think, to type in phonemic script (IPA) when using MSWord is to download a small software (which is free), called Phonmap. If you go to www.JanMulder.co.uk/Phonmap you will be able to download it. I have tried some of the other things that were mentioned, but really this is the easiest.

The only problem I have encountered with this program is that it doesn’t seem to work properly if you are using a Chinese version of Windows XP (which I currently am), but there should be no problem if you are using an English version of XP, and certainly, with Windows 98, it works beautifully.

Cheers,
terrylei
