First day anxiety

Post by erpwood » Tue Nov 23, 2004 4:59 am

I am teaching an intensive program to senior medical students in China and having some trouble putting together my lesson plan for the first day. While highly educated, they are still at an elementry level. This is my first class teaching alone and it is a four hour class, wasn't sure of the best way to start things off. Any suggestions?

I always start by introductions. If they don´t know a lot of English, tell them to try to speak as much as they can in English and what they don´t know how to say, say it in Chinese. If your students are going to be working together, it is crucial they get to know each other. Also, this provides for an intial assesment of thier English abilities.
