Funny way to spell

Fruit for thought: I taught ESL in Puerto Rico for two years, and I was amazed the way students remember how to spell. They will sound out the word in Spanish and the way it sound, was how they will spell the word. The ironic thing is that the word was spell correctly.

My students do this too, and I realized after a time that I do it as well!

When I was in school I was really good at spelling, and apparently I was doing this same thing subconsciously. With words like Wednesday that sound a lot different than they're spelled, when I have to write them I think, Wed Nes Day.

I figure it's essential to have the spelling and the sound stored separately in your brain... You just have to make sure they can differentiate.
