General American Thinking

Post by nadine10 » Mon May 23, 2005 11:25 am

A quote from Ms Andrea Geffner's Barron's ESL Guide to American Business English", used by the Syracuse University English Language Institute among other sites:
...it is healthy, we (Americans in general) think, to be busy. Therefore, whether the idle rich or the welfare poor, the ill or the retired, those who do not work are considered of no use to society.

And, she is criticized on Amazon.com for such a statement. No surprise.

No More Surprises

What would really be a surprise is to find out that the spammer has a personal beef with the author and is using these boards for that purpose.

Open a dialogue, if necessary. But spammers deserve no respect, as their opinion is not a studied look at anything, rather just a temper tantrum in the supermarket. Buy the book and form your own opinion. Thanks for the free marketing, the author should say.
