My cousin is thinking of enrolling in a EFL program in Guadalagara, Mexico and he is questioning the programs', and its claims, legitimacy. He hopes that this may be the beginning of a career for him in teaching english in Mexico. CAN ANYBODY OFFER ANY ADVICE?

I'm assuming its an EFL program for teachers? If so, there are two things to consider:

1. The only validated programs for British based English are the CELTA (Cambridge University) and the Trinity certificate.
2. Americans expect you to get a Masters in TESOL before you can teach.

So if it isn't one of these programmes then nobody is likely to recognise it, but it maybe worth studying for the learning experience.

If its a student program, I'd suggest the Cambridge exam suite, IELTs or a course ending in a TOEFL exam. (There maybe other programs recognised in America, but in Malaysia nobody cares about anything else.)

James

P.S. Have a look at: http://www.britishcouncil.org/mexico.htm

P.P.S. I'd suggest the BC should be your first point of contact for this kind of thing...
