Teaching materials in Karen

Post by gloriak » Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:37 pm

Hi everyone! I just joined here and I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction...

I work for a refugee resettlement agency and I am currently putting together a tutoring program with volunteers at a local library. The majority of our recently arrived families are from Burma, but I'm having a problem finding teaching resources that are in Karen (S'gaw Karen). I can't even find a good dictionary. If anyone has any good suggestions, I would really appreciate it!

I am also looking for materials in Arabic, Somali, and Kirundi/Swahili.

cheers,
Gloria

I see this post is from Jan. so not sure if you are still looking but you should check out White Lotus Press Publisher. Website:http://www.whitelotuspress.com

They have 2 books for Sgaw Karen, a spelling book and a 2 volume dictionary set.

I'm pretty sure they will ship to the USA. I know they are quite popular in bookshops in Thailand and with SEAsian academics here in the US.

Best Wishes! :D

Here are some resources and links for more for the Somali community.

Check with your local library and they might order some of the materials.
