New volunteer tutor

Post by WisconsinMom » Mon Nov 12, 2007 3:53 pm

Hello!
I'm a new volunteer tutor for a young woman from Kosovo. I was given 5 hours of "training" with little or no help in making lesson plans, what to teach first, how to teach, etc. I am not a teacher myself, just a volunteer who wants to help.
So far we've worked on introductions, family relationships, speaking in sentences, a little with I am/he is/ they are and today I'm going to do common objects and colors. I've printed off a couple pictures of families playing together and I'm going to get her to try and talk about what is happening in the picture, who the people are, what they are wearing.
I'm required to spend an hour each week and sometimes, it's very difficult filling that hour with someone who has very limitied speaking and writing ability in English. I think she understands fairly well.

Can anybody suggest some good online sources or books to help me create lesson plans?
Thanks in advance...
