New Headway assessment--where to place students

Post by wmcmanus » Sun Dec 14, 2008 5:12 am

Hi, I've been teaching at a Callan method school and so I'm very familiar with the callan method and how to assess students for those types of classes.

I'm working with a new school now that uses the New Headway series and despite trying to speed-read the first three books I don't feel like I have a good enough idea of how to assess books into one of the 6 new headway levels (beginner, elementary, pre intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate, advanced). Does anyone have experience assessing students into courses that use the new headway series as their core?

Also does anyone have any idea how many classroom hours are spent on each of the 6 books. I heard a suggestion somewhere that the texts require about 6 hours per unit--but it some cases that seems like much to much time, especially at the beginning level.
