ESP Textbook

Post by Orpheus » Mon Nov 17, 2008 3:57 pm

Hello all;

I'm currently developing a textbook/manual for Mexican groundskeepers and custodial staff working in the US. I'm still working on the first few chapters and I'm wondering if anybody knows of any resources for a general order of acquisition for English grammar by Spanish speakers. I've been using Azar's Basic English Grammar as a reference, but I'd really like it if I could find some sort of list that would give me a little more insight into what order I should present the material. I've tried to emphasize as much positive transfer between the two languages as possible, but I'm still not sure if I'm presenting the material in the best logical order. While it is definitely going to be focused on ESP, I want to also present some things about US culture and general situations that the students might find themselves in.

I've just got the first (preliminary) chapter finished, which just outlines the alphabet, basic grammar terms (noun, verb, article, subject pronouns, adjective and adverb and the verb "to be"), introductions and numbers. I'm thinking the first chapter will deal with present-tense (simple and progressive) verbs and maybe re-emphasize the subject pronouns. I'll probably also get into cognates before I finish chap.1. I definitely don't plan on giving a complete grammar of English, but would like to include all the "most important" stuff.

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

Dear Colleagues!

An online journal English for Specific Purposes World (ESP World) has a lot of articles on different ESP areas, methods etc.
Also I would like to invite ESP specialists to join the group EngliSP at Yahoo group and not only ask but answer questions!
