So I have some questions about coastal mexico. I'm in country and getting my TEFL, and soon I will have to go out into the big bad job market. Now as far as finding the right job content and pay wise I think I can more or less handle myself. However, I know next to nothing about the vie quotidienne in various coastal mexican towns. It seems like a lot of people on this forum are into the mountain towns. Not me, I want to live on the coast, so if any of you can recommend or even just provide info on what some of these towns are like (Mazatlan, Guaymas, Vera Cruz, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Escondido, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, etc..) I would be much obliged...

If you want to just know general info about the list of places you posted, you'd probably be best off searching for info on various travel sites like tripadvisor.com or lonelyplanet.com

I taught in Huatulco for three years, so if you want to know specific info about teaching in Puerto Escondido, Puerto Angel, or Huatulco, send me a PM with questions and I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

On the contrary, I think many people here would prefer to live on the coast. There are some university jobs on the Oaxacan coast that pay well, but in my experience, and judging from offers I've had, pickins are pretty slim in Acapulco, Veracruz, etc., unless you want to pay high rent and earn low pay. There does seem to be a gringo fantasy of landing a high-paying job at a school across the street from a pristine, virgin beach, but the truth is, most of the well-paid work is in Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara (with the exception of the Oaxacan universities, which are a welcome exception). Also, I have noticed a number of ads recently for positions in Poza Rica, Veracruz so that might be an option for you.

I was just reading a teacher's blog from Guaymas, Sonora, mentioning that an English teacher has left the school suddenly. If you are still interested in Guaymas, and in teaching 2nd and 4th graders from the hours of 6:45am-3:00pm I can put you in touch with her. No mention in the blog of why the other teacher left so soon.

Ha. Even if they were paying 20,000 pesos a month I couldn't bring myself to do it.
