Hi guys,
A little advice needed please.
I've been teaching English for just over a year now and I'm looking to develop my skills further. I'm not ready for a DELTA or an MA just yet though I will be doing them in the future.
I've found some courses on the Trinity College website that I can do through distance.
http://www.trinitycollege.co.uk/site/?id=705
I'm looking at the Cert Ibet ( International Business English Teaching) and the Cert ICT (Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology).
My question to those of you who actually go through CV's and hire is - would these actually make any difference if you saw them on a candidates CV?
They cost 700 euros each and can be done over 10 weeks and I'm seriously thinking of doing them both!
I already have a BA (Hons) in Business Management + CELTA.
Thanks for all and any advice |

Sorry!
I also meant to ask if you guys thought it was worth doing or just to hang on for another year or two and do the DELTA?
and if anyone else out there has done one of these courses and how it has helped them in the classroom and their career?
Many thanks |

If you've been teaching for a year already, get another year and start work on a masters degree. A few individual professional development courses aren't going to do a whole lot for you as far as employment if concerned.
I guess it depends on where you are teaching, though. |

Actually, on top of a CELTA, I'd be relatively impressed by the two courses you are considering. For me, it would demonstrate continuing commitment to the field, and both Business and Blended/Distance learning are quite useful niches to develop.
If you can do them without undue hassle, I think it would be valuable on a CV. The thing is that, as you know a CELTA is a very basic qual and the intention to do a DELTA or MA later on doesn't strengthen your CV beyond the newbie level. |

I have my DELTA and have decided to start the cert IBET - it's an extra bit of paper and as am getting it funded by the nice people I work for it's a good time to do it.
Talking to one of the tutors - it is designed to be of a level between the cert and the dip so would get you into study mode again.
Didn't see the other course you looked at - think I'll have to check it out for next time. |

Thanks for the advice guys,
I've emailed the centers for a little more information on the materials I need plus the dates the courses start, hopefully I can get them both done by the end of this year |

Just what are your goals for the future? What have you been teaching up to now? |
