Hi everyone. I've heard that one Footprints recruiting is one of the top teacher recruitment agencies. I've did a search on google and received mixed reviews. I don't know what I should do. They're asking me to send in my diplomas, certificates and other things that I have no problem with. The only problem I've heard from other teachers is that the agency doesn't do a good job of helping you find a job. Is this true?

Hi Mr. Ning.
I have been looking into the same school (DD Dragon) and the same recruiting company (Footprints.) I have the same questions as you, and have probably encountered the same reviews you have.
I planned to send my application material off to Footprints, probably tomorrow. I'll keep you posted if I come across any useful info. Would you mind doing the same with me?
It's hard to find all the answers online, thousands of miles away from our intended destination. Even a friend of mine who taught in China for a couple years was not able to help very much with this stuff. When I finally do take a job teaching in China, I think I will be taking a real leap of faith. I would just as soon skip the recruiter thing, but I'm so green to the world of ESL I'm not sure I would trust myself to do it all alone.
FYI - you might try Gold Star Recruiting, too. I applied with them and they expressed an interest. I read good reviews about them, even though I've heard dreadful things about some of their clients (Shane English School, Disney English, and EF.)
Good luck to you!

I'd be happy to keep you posted. I just heard back from one of the recruiters and I hope she'll be able to help me find something. I'm with Gold star now. The got me an interview with EF. I didn't take their offer though. I've heard that they are notorious for being a bad English school in China.

Good Luck!

Some of Gold Star's clients (EF in particular) have a bad reputation. They also represent Wall Street English, which provides ESL instruction to adult business people. I have heard good things about this company.

Yes. I've heard that they were good too but I only have 1 year of teaching experience. I don't know what my chances are of getting there.

Hi guys,

I am hoping you would help me with suggesting reputable agencies. I am new to esl and planning to teach abroad but need assistance on finding a good school in China. This is the first time I will be moving to a new country on my own and therefore I need assistance from a legit agency. I have also come across Footprints recruiting. Have you guys had good experiences with them???

A recruiter is just a recruiter. The only thing that makes them bad is if you:

    1. sign a contract with them (making them your employer) and something bad happens employer to employee (not recruiter to employee)

    2. pay them commission, which is something the school should do not you

    3. send them videos to stock their system but never get an offer after videos are sent

    4. do the legwork and go to immigration/PSB to get the paperwork complete (usually something the school does, not the teacher or recruiter)

Stay away from those 4 areas and the recruiter is nothing more than someone who introduces you to a school and a school to you.

Footprints is not necessarily bad, but their way of selecting teachers in the past was not good in my opinion. It doesn't mean anything though when it comes to working with the school. After you go to the school, the recruiter is no longer part of the equation.

Talk with the school, not the recruiter, before you decide on a school. If a recruiter refuses to allow you to talk with the school then find another recruiter. That simple. Let other teachers gamble and put their trust in recruiters.

I initially was working with them back in the mid 2000s. The problem I had at the time is that they just simply were not listening to my preferences and kept sending me offers from exactly what I said that I didn't prefer. I eventually just dropped them and went about finding my own job.

As far as agencies go, I suppose they aren't the worst by any stretch.

With that being said, it's not difficult to eliminate recruiters altogether when securing jobs.

Footprints was one of the recruiters used for the govt program Teach and Learn with Georgia (the country not the state). They did a pretty good job of informing their teachers of the area, that it is highly underdeveloped, and connected them with other teachers that would be headed out with them at the same time (the program had intakes every two weeks) a few days before they left. They also helped in communication between the GO and the new teachers during the time up until departure.

How they are here with China, I have no idea.

Footprints teamed up with Kaplan (which is an unholy alliance). they sent me a waiver which meant I could not sue them for anything that was represented to me regarding my job.
Any company that says "We don't want you to sue us in court." is a company that you don't want to work for. I didn't sign anything and they found another sucker (there's no shortage for UAE teachers).

I was also using them to apply for jobs in 2006 for Korea. I was living in Kabul at the time and they seemed to struggle understanding time zone differences - hence would hit the night staff at my hotel, who whilst lovely weren't the brightest tools in the drawer.

"Who is man we speak to? Oh very strangee!! No can speak-uh the Engurishee!!"

"He's is an Afghan man. I am in Afghanistan, so maybe his English isn't very good."

"Oh!^^" [*tumbleweeds*]

Didn't hear from them again. Crying or Very sad
