Has anyone worked for, or is currently working for Kohgakusha Co.? They're based in Tokyo and Osaka.

They have a fabulous glossy brochure with testimonials from staff members saying how working for Kohgakusha has changed their lives and it's the best experience they've ever had... blah blah blah... Very over the top. Sounds suspicious.

Does anyone know anything? All comments greatly appreciated.

A.S.

i went for an interview with them and they sound alright. very casual and fun work, and mainly targeted towards children. much different to the typical eikaiwa jobs. they are mostly in the tokyo, kanagawa regions. i've still got all the info they gave me, so if you want more info just ask.

I have recently been offered to work with Kohgakusha in Tokyo, I'm leaving Australia in September. I too am seeking information on them, to find out how the company really is. I'm looking forward to working for them, as the conditions and pay seemed preferable to larger language schools.

I worked for NOVA in 2003, Osaka. It was a bit of an isolating experience, working for such an impersonal company, but my impression so far of Kohgakusha is to be more approacable concerning their foreign employees. I'll let you know later on!

I did notice in the contract I signed two days ago, that they also discourage 'personal' relationships with clients, much the same as NOVA. Classes are 55 minutes in length (PEG division), no more than 5 classes a day. Their target is to teach mainly children, but they also employ Japanese instructors to help clients learn English grammar, so the empahsis on educational value seems to be above and beyond the majority of other language schools.

With my graduate teaching diploma I stand to earn 10,000 yen more per month, a base salary of 290,000 Yen p/month. Not considered high but it is competitive (NOVA being 250,000 Yen p/month), but benefits (housing allowance, transport allowance, Japanese language allowance, airfare support 30,000 Yen) are additional to that. Paid holidays, public holidays, three recognised annual holiday periods are also there for the teacher, over five weeks vacation per year.

I'll let you know when I get there, if you are still interested. Smile

Bringing this thread back...

Does anyone have any recent experience with Kohgakusha? They seem to be pretty good judging from their website.

I have an interview with them in mid-March. I will report back my impressions at that time.
