WHAT THE HECK.
1. YES, THERE ARE JOBS. THEY ARE HARD TO FIND.
2. NO, BUT IT'S STILL EXPENSIVE.

The research that I have done shows that jobs in teaching are pretty hard to find for a couple of reasons.
1. The market is smaller there.
2. The military and its spouses take up a large chunk of private lessons.
Okinawa is not nearly as expensive to live in as Tokyo, which is usually listed as one of the most expensive places on Earth. |

thanks glenski for the STRAIGHT UP answers, that is all i needed, not some wisecracks from others
and how does my attitude suck, canuck? all i asked where two simple questions and i got some lame response from a moron, so naturally i countered with a response that would be best suitable. so what if i typed a question in all caps, this isn't 7th grade english- its a forum-where people are there to help with questions and inquiries, im trying to find a cool place to go, but thanks for your answers, they helped me out |

You're absolutely right. This isn't 7th grade English. That's why most people on here type like normal human beings and don't start name calling when someone takes the piss.

I have been trying to get to Okinawa for minute now...there are jobs but mostly on-base jobs with the US military. It's not a bad deal if you are interested in that. However, I have a friend who went for an ALT job in the city schools of Okinawa and he was up against 62 other people. Finally it boiled down to him and three others and he got the job by the grace of God or perhaps his amazingly Abercrombie and Fitch good looks. Anyway he said the pay sucks--only 150,000 yen a month. And the school he's at has NO aircon!!! Anyways try these sites for more info:
Military base job site

Sometimes you can find jobs here:

If you find a good gig in Oki let me know, cause I sure as hell wanna move there. |

The issue with all-caps is simple. It's not as easy to read quickly and can be very annoying. Plus, agreed with it or not, people who misuse thier caps usually come across as simpletons.

Back on topic, I've heard the same as everyone else. Okinawa is very difficult to find work on because it's just so popular. Not my cup of tea though. Give me cold weather and I'm happy. |

well I thought it was funny
blah, if you're not up for a bit of banter then at least take solace in the fact that the banter bumped your thread, making it more likely to be read. so chill dude!
Why are there so many grumps on this forum? |

I did too!
Back to the all caps issue:
"ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE IS TO TYPE WITH THEIR CAPS LOCK ON. All-caps might look cool to you, but experienced users will write you off as an idiot. It's okay to use all-caps for headings and/or titles in your messages, or even to EMPHASIZE certain words, but anything beyond that is equivalent to screaming at someone. Do you like being yelled at?" (http://www.writerswrite.com/journal/dec99/pirillo1.htm)
"You can use capital letters in your emails...just don't use all capitals. It's considered rude. It's like yelling at someone.
Look at it this way; if you want to emphasize something in a sentence, you might capitalize the word, right? (example: "I am NOT going to do that" or "I am not going to do THAT") So if you capitalize everything, it's like you're trying to emphasize EVERY SINGLE WORD IN THE ENTIRE MESSAGE." (http://www.virtu-software.com/ask-doug/QandA.asp?subject=2&q=15)
Right! Enough of that...
Everyone: Have a GREAT day! |
