My first post but viewing this forum for over 3 yrs. I have been teaching Public school in Korea for 3 years. I am moving to Thailand in July and will take a TEFL course before seeking employment. Is there any benefit to me getting reference letters from any of my Korean co-teachers. Thanks for your thoughts.

Proof of classroom experience WILL be in your benefit.

Letters, certificates of employment, photos of you in the class or doing activities with your students are all good to have and can usually be used to negotiate a better position for yourself.

Many schools ask for at least 1 year experience in a K-12 school, so it is always advisable to get at least letters of employment stating dates, full names and on school letterhead. Get the letters signed by someone in management though, not just a Korean co-teacher. It never hurts to get reference letters and contact info for resume references as well,... if you trust them to say good things.

As tom said, pictures or videos of your teaching can be a nice touch for a portfolio and sometimes even be the thing that sets you apart from everyone else interviewing.

As with many other asian cultures, Thailand tends to value style (face value) over substance, so pictures/videos of you with smiling students cant hurt.

I even keep some examples of students' work in my portfolio.

Best of luck with your TEFL course. Which course will you be taking? (just curious)

Thanks for the input. Have been at current school 2 years and they wanted me to renew, so maybe get a letter or two from there. I have been considering Text and Talk, but many look fine. Want to work Pattaya 1 yr then move to Nong Bua Lam Phu. Thanks again for your comments.
