I was wondering if anyone knows more about this company. They claim to take your resume and for a one-time fee find jobs for you in most any country in the world. I am curious about their legitimacy and would love any input if anyone has it. Thanks a lot!

I wouldn't pay for something you can get for free.
There are free recruiters out there. |

i would tend to agree- but the price is pretty minimal so who knows...
where in mexico are you teaching? Do you enjoy it? I want to end up in S or C America by next January - I am not in any need to save money but really need a job that pays enough to live on comfortably and preferably has 6 month teaching options.... any suggestions?
I am only 23 but have my BA, my in-class 120 hour TESOL cert. and taught in Thailand for 6 months. |

I don't know a lot about TeacherMexConnect, but here's what I do know.
They work cheap, compared to a lot of similar services.
They seem to work primarily as a resume re-emailing service. You send your resume to them, they send it in all directions.
I have hired teachers from resumes I've received from them, and had good experiences with said teachers.
They send out a lot of resumes. It doesn't seem that they really get too deeply into "job-hunting." At least where I'm concerned, they email the resumes with an email suggesting that I contact the applicant directly for anything further.
So I don't have anything against these guys. On the contrary, they've periodically done me good and never done me harm. (As a hirer.)
How much good they do, on average, to their applicants, I couldn't say. Certainly I've only ever hired a couple of teachers of theirs, but get resumes at least weekly.
I wouldn't hesitate to use them if a mass emailing towards your target region is what you want. After all, it's not a lot of $$ either. But I wouldn't count on them getting you a job.
Best,
Justin |

Thank you Justin for your response, that is really good to know.
If you dont mind me asking- how is the job market in Quito and what is the pay range for a fairly new but qualified teacher? |

Just curious. What do they charge? I didn't see a price on the above link. |

Market in Quito is volatile. There's still plenty of work, but as the economy tightens, the big are eating the small. Big schools like the politecnica nacional and EF are doing very well, from what I can see. Small schools are battening down hatches, finding fairly specialized niches, or in some cases shutting down.
Still an awful lot of work around for teachers though.
Wages are medium. Depending on where you go, a newbie could expect to earn between $550 and $850. Maybe a bit more if you got into a decent private high school or elementary school. (luck of the draw, unless you have QTS.)
You can live on it, and live pretty well, if you're not too extravagant. But you can't really save much that matters outside of Ecuador.
best,
Justin |
