I'm currently interviewing for positions in Japan (currently living in Australia), and am really flexible where I go, and want to get this across to potential employers. Trouble is, I'm going with my partner who is a designer who works online 90% of the time. She's willing to go anywhere as well, but it's ESSENTIAL that we are able to get a reliable, high-speed internet connection at all times. My question is, are there areas in Japan where this just isn't possible? I understand it might take a while to set up, and be reasonably expensive (estimates on this appreciated), but just need to know that it's possible wherever I go. I've recently moved from England to semi-rural Australia (only 5-10 mins from a pretty big town), and the internet connection is slow, laggy and sometimes non-existent. People tell me there are huge variances in quality over relatively small areas in Australia, and I was quite stunned by how far behind the UK Australia seems to be on this. I'd have thought Japan would be equal if not better than the UK, but I'm a layman when it comes to these things. Thanks as always!

Yes, there are areas where internet access is slow. I live next to one. My coworkers live outside the city, and they deal with it. You cannot always count on 100% access to high speed access.

Heck, you can't even in the U.S.! My parents live in a rural area and are living proof.

If you're somewhere rural then it will come down to proximity to a larger town - on a road or rail link between two larger towns/cities and you're likely to have the usual range of DSL and high speed connections available simply because when they run the lines they will favour the lines directly bewteen the two larger areas so you get service available by default.

Genuinely off the beaten track and you might be limited to DSL, but it's weird where you can find high speed.

Service install is sometimes slow, but speeds and prices can be outstanding compared to OZ/UK/NZ. I was paying under Y5000/mo for a all-you-can-eat 3Mbps fibre optic connection which is perfectly fine IMO. Install cost Y15,000 because they had to run the line up the street ~100m from the main road and no one else on the road had it installed at that point.

Just for clarity, do you mean 30mbps/3MBps?
