Hey SueH,
In my life, I've gone out with a Hungarian, a Scot, and several Australians in Australia, an American in England, and a Colombian and a Spaniard in Mexico. Maybe you'll meet some guy in Italy who is equally sporty, and just as windswept and interesting as you, but is as Italian as beans on toast...
Just a thought.
Good luck though!
Lozwich.
Oh, and by the way, if anyone dares to suggest that I'm coming to Spain to be with the aforementioned Spaniard - prepare to be flayed!!! |

Hi Sue

But frankly, from an independent woman's point of view, are Italian men in their 40's really a practical, house trained proposition? It seems to me that they want as smooth a transition as possible from the comforts of home to the comforts of home, with only the personnel changing. That, or a mistress; neither of which appeals in the slightest.

The problem with unmarried men in their 40s is that they don't want to get married - for whatever reason. A lot of them are still living with Mummy, so they certainly don't know one end of the iron from another, Or one end of a hoover, dishcloth and so on. And woe betide you if you don't get the pasta perfectly al dente.
As for bella figura - most Italians wear clothes how they are "supposed" to wear them. There's very little individuality - especially in Rome. If you're remotely bothered by not looking how everyone else looks, well, you might not have much fun. On the other hand, if you couldn't give a fig, you'll be fine anywhere!
Having bitched enough, I should say that attitudes are a little more enlightened in the north, although there is still the obsession over getting the clothing right! |

I liked the girls in Sicily. I like the girls here in Catalonia. Why discuss relative merits? |

Thanks for the replies,
TiR - no, I don't care too much but I'd not want to be too sore-thumbish.
In 1990 I was at i mondiali doing some voluntary translation work and was amused to see gaggles of England fans going round with shorts on their heads in mockery of the sartorial habits of the local lads. That wasn't understood, of course, but it made me chuckle.
Here on the south coast of England the summer students go round in their hordes and guessing the nationality ends up being quite easy in most cases. |

How do you guess the Spanish? (As this is the Spanish forum, after all!) |

Beh... Spanish - perhaps a little less concerned than the Italians to look cool, and they appear a little more relaxed. Or it may just be instinct for something I haven't consciously defined yet:-) |

Actually, I think most of the Mediterraneans are quite concerned with looking cool, wouldn't you? |

I always found Spanish women too skinny. And loud. And carniverous. |

Why is carnivorousness a problem? |

Hey Mr Fly,
What was your little test about anyway?
If you're going to turn us into (metaphorical) guinea pigs and stick electrodes in our brains, at least let us know what for...
Lozwich. |
