Angry white man...what a name for an article. The name is very offensive to me since I am white but then again it was in wikipedia so lets not expect highly educated people to be writing things there.
In the Masters program I am in, we are not allowed to use wikipedia as a source of credible information and after having read the reverse discriminatory article entitled Angry white man, I know why.
Below is a comment that was at the end of the article. It is directed towards the non racist author who wrote it.
"You fail to mention that everything Paul has ever said in real life has gone against the racist homophobe crap.
He thinks gays should be able to get married, he opposes a marriage amendment.
He wants to release non violent drug offenders from prison as he considers the laws racist and he is against federal drug laws.
He voted yes for Martin Luther King day to be a holiday
Nelson Linder from the NAACP says Paul is not a racist.
A few lines from a newsletter (that were not all racist anyway, just not pc) have to be able to be backed up by something else...a real life statement, a tape recording...or a witness maybe? You have anyone in the 72 years of Paul's life that can testify they have heard him say anything like this?
I rest my case." |

Dear EFLEducator,
Guess you may not have read all of the first link (or connected to any of the sources on the WIKI page.)
Newsletters published under his name are filled with bigotry, hate, and paranoia (not just "not PC").
But it's all moot anyway since he has not the slightest chance of being nominated, never mind elected.
"The name is very offensive to me since I am white"
It's not really a "name", but would it be OK to be angry if you were of another color?
Regards,
John |

No, not the Middle Ages, but the Frozen Fifties, when women knew their place (kitchen, bedroom, laundry room), kids were respectful, big cars and refrigerators and suburbs were 'everyone's' dream, and the Great White Man had no need to be Angry ('cause everyone bowed to his authority).

Well, for sure there's me and you, and there are a few more I am pretty sure we can count on as well.
But, really, I want to know when being liberal became a dirty word. According to the dictionary a liberal is favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties. Seems strange to me that so many so-called conservatives are always screaming about preserving some un-named freedoms, while all the while wanting to enact more laws that would actually limit freedom. |

"Liberal' is the watered-down term they are using when they're not quite bold enough to use the words they really mean 'socialist' and 'communist.'
It's all about fear tactics. OMG, let's not allow the US to become a European socialist state - that has the naive, untravelled American voter shaking in his/her loafers.
They're resurrected Joe McCarthy.
Today we are engaged in a final, all-out battle between communistic atheism and Christianity. The modern champions of communism have selected this as the time, and ladies and gentlemen, the chips are down they are truly down.
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Joseph_McCarthy
"You are seeing today an all out attempt
to marshal the forces of the opposition,
using not merely the communists, or their
fellow travelers-the deluded liberals, the
eggheads, and some of my good friends
in both the Democratic and Republican Parties
who can become heros over night in the eyes
of the left-wing press if they
will just join with the jackal pack"

I believe that "liberal" became a dirty word (for people like ESLeducator) during the Reagan years. |

exactly correct, Isla guapa. Reagan used to snarl whenever he said the word. But then again, the reason he was a conservative was because Dragon Lady ensnared him. He could stand up to Gorbeeecough but not to his wife. He was pussywhipped as they say at Sloe Gin`s Bar.
But gee whiz, maybe they have a point after all. Those damn liberals brought about the child labor laws, minimum wage, social security, unemploymment compensation, disaster insurance and went after those good old plutocrats like Mellon, Rockefellow and those other real patriots megabuck entrepreneurs.. Dastardly troublemakers! Why couldn`t they just left the rich and powerful alone to give the rest of us peanuts while the true patriotic conservative Americans would suck up to them and get taken care of by some nice cushy administrative jobs. Why after all, those are the real workers not the people who turn bolts all day long. |
