I took Benadryl (typical dose) at about 10 PM last night. Thing is that I forgot about the blood test (and I think they do a urine test) the next morning. Can this cause a false positive?

My understanding is that the main things, or only things, that they are looking for in the blood test are AIDS and Syphilis.

I doubt that Benadryl would cause a false positive.
I have never heard of the blood or urine test be used to test for drugs.

Then should I tell the person taking me to the test that I took this medicine before going to sleep?

If they do happen to test for it, I do not want to risk losing my job based on a false positive.

ETA: middlekingdomlife.com says that there is no drug or alcohol testing of any kind. However, that article may be a bit dated (seems to be from 2009). They go as far to say:

Quote:
Essentially, if you do not have any communicable or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), if you can breathe, walk, and talk without assistance and are not in the end stages of a terminal illness, you will pass the exam.

Might as well tell them, couldn't hurt. I'm pretty sure they're only looking for STDs.

I doubt it will make any difference. I got my medical two months ago and they didn't even bother doing a urine test.....dunno why, I asked about it and apparently it wasn't necessary. Even if you do take it, I doubt they care about drugs at all.

Benadryl is an antihistamine. It won't ring any alarms. I take a prescription diazepine-related drug for sleep every night. I've never had any problems over that in China. I've been through routine drug testing for jobs in the U.S. and I've never been asked about it there either, and I've never said anything about it.

What might show up is something in your liver enzyme test. I doubt that the Benadryl will ring any major alarms, though.

I believe that the drug tests are for opiates. Benadryl isn't an opiate.

I DO recommend that you fast before the blood tests. They do test for sugar in the blood in a lot of clinics, so if you refrain from food and alcohol for a full eight-to-twelve hours before the test, you won't have to take another blood test because you have elevated sugar.

The last stateside health check I took (2010) called for liver function tests to be performed before arrival in China (form Q3). Liver function tests WILL show many things, among them chronic alcohol abuse, recent alcohol abuse, hepatitus, level of fat in the liver (one indicator of possible chronic alcoholism).

I just looked at the U.S. Chinese embassy's health form, and it is asking for the older health form Q2 which merely asks for the doctor to check for STDs. It also calls for a "serodiagnosis". It isn't as specific as form Q3 which specified four liver function tests, one of which would detect chronic alcoholism and recent heart attack.

So maybe there's no alcohol test, unless the serodiagnosis is a comprehensive liver function test.
