I have just arrived in Quito, Ecuador after a 2 and half year stint in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

For many reasons i stayed far longer than i planned but in general I had a good time and was lucky with the schools I worked in after initially suffering.

At first I worked for Berlitz, Sendero having accepted a job offer before leaving Scotland. At first it was ok but as with the other teachers the company took the piss after a while.

I ended up eating into my savings and barely scraping by on 6-8,000 pesos. The promise of free accommodation, insurance and Spanish lessons quickly dissolved as well.

Berlitz are ok an ok organisation to start off with but in the long term you really have to work for a couple of organisations or University.

After a year I left Berlitz to work for Leeds United Language School and Universal English.

Both schools treated me excellently and the pay was higher than all of the other schools in SLP.

Through Leeds United I received on-site training, Spanish lessons and University teaching experience. And similarly at Universal I visited companies all over SLP and benefited from excellent support.

I literally had no problems at all at either school and received the greatest support in regards to teaching, students and socially.

What was most important in both schools was that they were both family run so there wasn't the big school bureaucracy, back stabbing and broken promises. Both owners are westerners but with Latin American partners so you had the best of both worlds.

I can't speak highly enough of these schools.

If you want more information or contact details please PM me.

cheers

ali

Really wish I had something good to say about any of those schools.
