Ok, here it is. Just a disclaimer: I found out about all of these on DAve's. Some of them advertise here, some don't. Some advertise on their own page. Some don't advertise at all. Some did and don't anymore, becuase, let's face it, when people know about a good thing, word of mouth is the best. It works for Dave's. It works for other places.
Some advertise on academic websites: I also look at HigherEdJob, Job.ac.uk, the Chronicle, and tesol.org
Australian Education Assessment Services
University of Nottingham Ningo China
SBC USST
NCUK / Kaplan
Fort Hays State University
Keuka College in Xiamen
Missouri State at Liaoning Normal University in Dalian
University of Colorado at Beijing
Sino-British College, not sure if this still exists

Do you see anything in common among any of the nominees on your list?
These are extensions of UK/US schools or Chinese schools that have SUPPOSEDLY turned over their English programs to foreign interests either for a financial gain or because their own foreign languages departments are incapable of creating or maintaining an English program. I would not suggest that a newcomer begin work at such a school, especially if he has never taught before. At one such school where I taught, the approach was programmed and the teachers had NO leeway in which to teach the course because the tests were departmentalized. It's a total drag.
The FT may or may not have native English speaking supervisors, and the hours may be (as mine were) 20-25 hours per week.
Of course, YMMV. |

Peking Uni in Beijing may also be a good option for those with the necessary quals and experience.
I don't think that any of the Unis Naturegirl listed are going to be considering first time teachers anyway, Miles |

Really, I don't see having that language school job is going to do anything for you at all....
NCUK / Kaplan I'm guessing.
I have taught before. 10 years. 6 at unis, 2 masters degrees. Or did you mean the OP? |
No, not Kaplan... nor is it on your list (because I went through an agent, not direct).
And, no - I know you've got the experience and quals.... so, yes, I did mean the OP, cos there was no info in it, and just from the question I guessed...

My friend works at a great university in Hefei and he said they are looking for teachers. There is also plenty of part time work available here to improve your salary. You MUST have a BA at least for this university. If you are interested PM me. |

Just thought I'd comment on XJTLU, I was offered a position, pay is about 3500 a month plus 500 for housing. Dollars for both. One off 1000 moving fee, which I'll need to ship all the stuff! and 2000 a year for flights. |

Said yes, but now am running into paperwork isseus, that I'm not sure I'll be able to handle.
Someone here said that he's married to an INdonesian and was told to get their Indonesian marriage cert legalised by the Australian embassy in SH. SO he did. Then they wouldn't accept it and put his wife on a tourist visa. Then they said he had to get it legalised by the Chinese embassies in Australia and Indonesia.
So if I had to do that, I'd have to some how get someone to legalise ours in Peru. And then not sure whether to legalise the baby's Korean birth cert or American one. And it's just going to be a logistic nightmare.
And, I can't get the visa where I live. I have to get a medical in Korae, then go to Thailand and get a medical and the visa there. And then another medical in China.
So I'm waiting to hear about the paperwork side of it. ANd waiting patiently so I don't pull my hair out. |

That's just . . . a whole lot of crazy. I can't imagine the cost of flying to three different countries for medicals. What? Of course, I guess they didn't mention any of this before you accepted.
Thanks for the update, and good luck! |

Legalise a marriage certificate in Peru, then do a medical in Korea, then a medical in Thailand, then a medical in China?
Yeah, of course you got offered a 3500USD job at Jiao Tong teaching English when from what I know their subject teachers don't even get that
Great recent posts. |

I can't get the visa in Korea, but need the medical to start the paperwork. You usually have to re-do the medical in China, for some reason or other, |

Plus 500usd for housing. Salaries start at 17K and go up to 25K. rmb / month.
Are you married to a foreigner?
Did you have a child abroad in a country that was neither yours nor your spouse's?
Were you living in a country that refused to give you a Chinese visa?
If you didn't have to deal with those issues, then you don't really know about them
I've been in touch with a couple people with similar situations and they also had to jump through these hoops. Legalisations, translations, medicals abroad. Not my rules. China's. Check with your local PSB: they'll tell you the same thing. |
