Hi,

I'm working as an an Eanglish as an Additional Language Teaching Assistant in a mainstream school in the UK and the school has alomost 50% EAL students. The Majority of them are following and ESOL programme however when they are in their main classes some of the teachers are finding it hard. Some of these kids are low ability and expected to take BTECs and GCSEs in Science, English and other subjects.

I was wondereing if anyone who works in an internation school where they may also have a lot of EAL students knows of any good books which may help teach science (this a particually difficult one at the moment) to bi-lingual and EAl students. It doesn't matter so much if they are aimed at KS2/3 or 4 as a lot of the students have missed primary education.

Thanks

Williams words is very good for vocab. http://www.williamswords.co.uk/contribute.htm

One stop English has quite a few lessons for science. http://www.onestopenglish.com/clil/secondary/science/

Also look at CLIL learning http://www.onestopenglish.com/clil/methodology/articles/article-planning-clil-lessons/500472.article
