Sort of. There's job fairs for foreigners in the 3 main cities in April.

http://jobfair.chinajob.com/employee.php

I'm not sure how many employers will be there. My Uni are almost certainly not going to have a stand as it will cost too much for employers, though we may be prowling ninja stylie around the fair surruptitiously trying to chat to and get CVs from potential teachers.

The fairs are free for job seekers.

If anybody plans on going, perhaps people could mention it on the thread. It might be fun to meet greasy spooners and see if we can carry off the rushes to judgement and lack of empathy face to face. Also, as I say, we want you, we want you as a new recruit. Y M C A!

I went to this fair in GZ last April. It was small and pretty disappointing. A handful of universities from the GZ area and a couple from Jiangxi province. All of them were the same ones that advertise continually online, so there wasn't really any new information per se. It was interesting to chat with a few of the foreign teachers who had been corralled into working that Saturday by their schools for the PR gig. EF sure had a nice stand though!

Oh well. I probably let my imagination run away with me, and thought that it would be a thriving mass of China's ESL elite. Good job we're not having a stand.

I'm not sure it was mentioned here last year. Maybe this will help teachers to at least know it's happening. My Uni only know about it because I told them. if your schools need teachers for next year, try to persude them to send you, and if worse comes to worse we can get a subsidised booze fueled shopathon out of it for us and our other halves. Not that that's what we're doing of course. Very Happy

There is a job fair which touts itself as the next step from ESL ie corporate jobs.
Some commercial firms but despite the hype it was mainly educational - either individual schools or provincial education dept types seeking teachers on behalf of schools in their area.
The one I went to was at Swisshotel Beijing.

Maybe a good idea. KOTESOL was great but it took a lot of effort by people to keep it non political. The fairs are great, you get to check out the new books and materials for teaching. You participate in multi seminars and go back to work full of energy ready to try some new ideas out. They don't need them here because Beijing provides teachers with everything they need.

The previous post indicates that it is the 2012 version of the one I went to as per above.
It's probably better for teachers than its target market which seemed to be people who were interested in moving from teaching to corporate.
Be interested in hearing how the 2012 show shapes up for teachers and people looking to move into something different.

I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who attended one of these fairs. I'm thinking of going to the one in Guangzhou on April 21st if I can make it, just to check it out.

Sincerely, --G
