Hi all,
Anyone working at the women's colleges (HCT)? How are things there? I was particularly interested in Al-Ain, Dubai or Abu Dhabi... |

And should you decide to apply to HCT, be aware that YOU don't choose where you wish to work (you can certainly express your preference) HCT CHOOSES where you will be offered a job. |

Does HCT offer accommodation or a housing allowance? If I decided to leave early, I'd rather not repay the allowance(s) back. Of course, I realize there would be no choice in the matter, but I'd rather pack up and just leave a flat, then have to deal with paybacks (on so many levels- ). |

HCT gives accommodation and an allowance for settling in. And of course you will pay it back if you leave early. (it is a contract, after all) If you don't finish the contract, the allowance will be pro-rated and taken from your final pay. You don't really have to deal with it. HCT's procedure are - in Gulf terms - pretty organized. You give your notice as per the contract... leave at the appropriate time... with the pay you have earned to that point.
I presume that you will take the time to read the threads of the current problems at HCT and be ready to deal with them if you choose to take a job with them.

To be honest VS, I simply would leave without notice, especially after reading all the threads. If they provided furnished accommodation it wouldn't be a problem. I could just leave after receiving my salary. Allowances only complicate things. Not a fan of professional courtesy anymore, since it rarely exists in the ME. |

It would be your last job in the UAE...
I can't imagine taking a job with absconding being the plan.

I hardly think that is true. Instructors come and go in the ME. That is what this forum is all about. |

Dear
It's true - "To avoid the hassle - and the debts - some people choose to do a runner, jumping on a plane with no intention of coming back. But this is hardly a prudent option, nor is it an ethical one. Expatriates who abscond from debts could be blacklisted from re-entering the country for years to come - if not forever. And as soon as you enter an Emirati airport, even in transit, you could end up having problems with the local authorities."

The GCC shares debt information, and there IS a "blacklist" for "absconders."
Oh, you MIGHT not get caught, but would you really want to risk it?
Regards,
John |

Running away from debt? I don't think you have read my post. I originally asked if HCT offered accommodation OR allowance (s). Reason being, if the situation became intolerable, I would do a runner. If they offered an allowance for housing, then it would have posed a problem, because I would have to deal with all the paperwork and repayment. Please don't make me out to be a thief. I have never absconded from anything. |

If you left without notice, how would you pay the allowance back?
