Kings has developed this scheme for nurse education in Saudi Arabia in conjunction with Buckinghamshire New University (nurse education) and UH Ventures Ltd (English language training) and GRS Ltd. King Fahad Medical City is the first hospital in Saudi Arabia to sign up.

The agreement consists of two programmes. The first is a bridging/top-up degree for nurses with 2 and 3 year diplomas. They will receive 6 months of English training delivered in Saudi Arabia, followed by a 3 year honours degree course delivered in the UK leading to a BSc in Nursing. A work placement at Kings College Hospital will make up 45 per cent of the degree. An internship year will be provided in Saudi Arabia. The first cohort of nurses in this programme are due to start their English training on 12 November.

The second programme is a BSc honours degree for unqualified nurses. This will start with a preparatory program, including English, in Saudi Arabia followed by a 4 year degree programme in the UK with an internship final year in Saudi Arabia. This programme is due to commence in February 2012.
