Can't say I know what type of visa Ed Ex offers.
FYI - If you rent a normal, unfurnished apartment, the landlord will usually only offer a year's contract - you pay every 6 months. Generally, you can break after 6 months if you can find someone to take over. Alternatively, you might find someone who is moving on and will rent or sublet to you for the remainder of his contract. While technically not above board, it happens quite often.
Sounds like the furnished apt on a monthly basis would suit you better for now, unless, of course, you opt for the company provided accommodation.
I am not sure if you have been in the Kingdom before but, if not, I'd go with what's provided for now and move on if / when you settle in and decide to stay longer term. |

What's provided includes buses that may get you to work late (Do they still fine you in this case?) and often fail to show up after work - allegedly. Does that sound like a good plan to you?
Stuck between a rock and a hard place. |

I am packing my suitcase and I will be with you on Wednesday.
What do you think my first impressions of Riyadh might be? |

As I read these posts with the horrible fascination of watching an impending train wreck, I keep asking myself if it's smart to keep posting in minute detail about an employer you keep naming. |

Uh-huh!
When things go awry, maybe he can refer his employer to info given on this site. |

Who cares?
There should be an element of accountability, after all. |

There won't be any first impressions now as they were going to pack me off to Najran on arrival.
This was thanks to the recruiter at Chase Recruiting, who promised me from Day 1, a job at KSU on PYP.
He didn't bother to tell me that they had met their quota - I only found out when I asked Ed Ex directly.
There's one thing worse than having to deal with a useless bunch of ***** and that's being unemployed.
Back to Thailand then for more fun and pittance wages. |

So... you backed out and are not going to Saudi after all this?

I will confess, I did contact another recruiter I know. But aside from the lack of money, the boredom of unemployment and the feeling that you are wasting your life are dreadful.
I don't know what to do, is the truth.
But I can't sit around in England rotting. I am trying to drum up work now anywhere, with ALT work in Japan a possibility.
I would loathe ALT work but would love Japan. My last job was at a university in England.
I have to do something or I will crack up. |

| Congrats on not getting yourself into what was clearly a very dodgy situation. |

| Actually, you probably needled them into acknowledging that they weren't going to honour your verbal agreement or requests. In this case, it probably paid off to be a bit of a pain in the &*^ |
