|
|
I am planning on taking the CELTA in Thailand and visiting some friends while I am there. I hope to go teach in another country after getting the CELTA, but if it doesn't pan out as I would like I might look for work there. Do you advise an education visa or a 60 day? |

How long is your course? And how long are you planning to stay? If your course is around 30 days, then I cant think of any reason to bother w/ a student visa. Unless you plan on staying here for a while... |

I'm not sure that you can get an educational visa for your course. |

Original post was 8 months ago, but till may be relevant for others I guess.
Just get a double entry tourist visa from your nearest Thai consulate before coming to Thailand. Little to No paperwork required.
Depending on the political/tourist situation in Thailand, tourist visas are sometimes offered for free. |

Tourist Visas are no longer free. 1000 Baht for single entry (2 months), 2000 Baht for double entry (2months, leave at Mai Sae-Tachilek, reenter another 2months without having to reapply). Keep in mind that when you fly into Bangkok, you get a 1 month transit visa stamp free at the airport and I believe you can extend it at the immigration office for an additional month for a fee. |

...at the moment, yes. In the past couple years, tourist visas have been offered free for different spans of time. Both spans of time were quite lengthy. It is quite likely, based on the politics, southern violence and bombings and bad press in tourist areas, that tourist Visas could again be offered free.

I believe this is correct for countries like Laos and Cambodia, prices could and will vary from country to country and consulate to consulate even. Expect prices to be slightly higher if applying at a Thai consulate or embassy in UK, Can, US, etc.

leave at Mai Sae-Tachilek |
could leave at any immigration crossing. Mae Sae would be easiest and closest if you are in the Chiang Mai area though I believe.

I'm pretty sure that Transit Stamps can only be extended for up to 7 days for a fee of 1900 baht AND only in the case of emergencies (medical). Tourist Visas can be extended once for the same price but for a longer period of time (30 days I believe). |
