Hello,

I am considering working at this college, perhaps now a university. I have looked at past threads they are informative, but the most recent are from last year. Can anyone offer the latest on Peizheng U, please? Thanks in advance. Wink

Whoopsie! Embarassed I see that there is another thread with quite recent additions. I will read all seven pages through Still, I wouldn't mind a perhaps more balanced discussion of said college here on this thread. Cool Thanks again.

I taught there a few years a couple years ago.

At that time there were over 40 foreign teachers, and only a few were employed by the Foreign Language Department. The rest of us taught the mandatory English classes to all incoming freshmen and sophs using New Interchange.

Not a bad place to work in my opinion. They paid on time, though they did have to implement a system to fine all the teachers who skipped classes or let them out early...

Wherever that many foreigners are employed, there are bound to be differing opinions. If you don't need night life, go for it--GZ was a 1 hour bus ride away.

1 hour bus ride isn't so bad, if I wanna go across town it takes more than an hour Evil or Very Mad such a hassle.

When you say they fine for letting them out early, how early is "early"? 5min? 10? 15? how about fining for starting late? I see so many Chinese teachers that never start on time.

fines are only for foreign teachers... Make sure such a clause never gets into a contract you sign....

Really, I think they'd fine only if one of the students complained. Never happened to me, but many of the younger teachers were put on notice...

Also, the school is/was at the end of a bus line, so catching a bus was never a problem. Getting a seat sometimes was, as the busses were the small sort, with only about 35 seats...

One of the nice perks of working at the school is that they have (or had--not sure if they still do) two apartments in a block in Hong Kong that teachers can stay at on weekends or holidays. It's super basic, like a hostel, really. Two bedrooms with a total of 6 beds. It makes a nice place to lay your head while waiting for flights out of the country...

You don't have to look far to find the drama that goes on there. I'd avoid it like the plague.
