OK, I have to decide fast between the two universities.

Nanyang Institute of Technology or

Nanyang Normal University (does this mean there are no crazy people?

Both contracts are almost the same.

They are both in Nanyang. For the second one I have talked to a teacher there who has been there for 3 years, and if some one sticks around taht long the job has to be "good". She said it is a good place to work.

Yes, I have heard that Nanyang is boring, but I do not care.
Help anyone???

Thanks so much

Why exactly do you have to decide fast? it's April.....

And there's literally another post about this school 10 threads down.........that you also made. Why make another?

Criticism aside you cannot rush these things. If you want to make a decision "fast" (desperation even?) then it only increases your chances to make a bad decision. Talk to more teachers at both schools. Search Nanyang in this forum and there's a lot of posts about it even tho they're from a few years ago. You might say you don't care if it's boring now, but boring in China isn't the same as boring in many other countries.

xig...
You are 100% correct with everything that you said. I do not have to decide fast. I just plan to go away for the summer and I wanted to decide quickly.
I know there will be a lot of jobs.

That's a pretty good indicator, assuming she's a teacher and not a shill.

i would guess (i don't know) that the big difference will be the
level of english.

a normal university is a teacher training school that probably has
lots of english majors.....real studious students.

institute of technology? could be a three-year college with most of
the students majoring in geekology. they only take english as a
required course, have no interest, and will pass the time in your
class sleeping or texting.

Then just make a decision. Don't expect others to take the responsibility of choosing so that you can defer personal responsibility later. Few will have valuable input anyhow.

Choose a job.

As choudoufou said, a normal university is the traditional name given for a teacher training school (quite a few universities in the US started off as "normal" schools). It has nothing to do with the level of sanity of the students. Most normal universities in China now are comprehensive universities, not just teacher training schools. I also agree that the "institutes" or vocational schools have a lot of lazy students (mostly boys) who have no interest in learning English (or much of anything else, from what I have seen). I have taught at both types of schools and would choose the normal university, all other factors being equal.

dana, I certainly do not expect some one else to make a decision. I just know Korea, not China, and thought that maybe some reading here has heard of either school. I can give advice to some one asking about Korea, and I would never be nasty.

For the record I decided against Nanyang Normal because when I saw the contract it was 1000 less then they told me in their first emai.
l
Also I can not take the other one because I can not afford a complete medical check in this country, adn they want that first. So I will keep checking.

And this is exactly the reason I am starting to do this now and not wait for a few months.

Check and double-check. Most of them tell me their parents want them to be teachers.

You can't afford the medical check in Korea? Or a different country? Last I remember in Korea medical checks ran from 50-100k krw. China is even cheaper. Country X; how much there if it is not the aforementioned?

Oh, I can cetainly afford the medical check in Korea. I plan to go to Korea for August, and will get a medical check there. And from there I can look for a job in China. I just do not have the money to get a medical check in the USA. I just wanted to get a job before I left here. I know that there will be lots of jobs in China for September, even if I wait until July or August to find one.

Sometimes they are trying to pull a fast one and sometimes they just attach an older version of the contract by accident. Best to ask them if it was a mistake after pointing out the email offer. Either way, it's negotiable.

why get a medical check in korea? will you be applying for your
z-visa there? if you'll be getting your z-visa in the usa, why would
the san francisco/washington/houston embassy/consulate accept
a korean medical check. that would be a red flag. and not the
good red.
