|
|
I've been asked to take an online evaluation located at this address http://evaluation.safea.gov.cn/login.php I've been told but don't believe that it's required nationally for all foreign teachers but notice nobody here is talking about it and only one school has asked me about it.
Is anyone familiar with this? The school is a college in Suzhou and is the only reason I would consider jumping though and extra hoop for the position. |

I do remember some kind of online test introduced a few years ago. There were threads about it at that time. I think I was in Hainan so it would have been around 2008 I believe. Never seemed to come to much... |

I've been asked to do it before. I also do not know if it is required nationally. I would not really consider this an extra hoop to jump through, it's not exactly a big deal. They likely do not use it for serious evaluation but as something to show the PSB. Just dotting i's and crossing t's would be my bet. |

I've worked in China for 11 years at six different universities in four different cities - Nanchang, Wenzhou, Wuhan and Beijing. I have never been asked to do that online English evaluation test - or any other. |

I was asked to do it sometime last year, I was a bit concerned at the information they were asking for eg. passport number, where you were working, family details etc. I made up most of the information and nothing was ever said/made of it. |

I did it in '09 and '10. Most of the stuff was multiple choice (in Chinglish, difficult to decipher). There was also an essay on some subject of their choosing. I just answered all of the multiple choice by picking answers randomly and typed out a quick two hundred word essay without thinking about it. Gives some underworked bureaucrat something to do. I do recall a score for "grammer and spelling". Misspelling "spelling" would have been TOO perfect, but "grammer" is still pretty good. |

I started to take it a couple years ago but quit in the middle because it was so stupid. I did save a couple gems from it though:
Psychological test:
How do you feel on an early autumn morning?
A. I would enjoy the cool weather in fall.
B. A lot of leaves may have fallen.
C. I won't have any special feelings.
D. It might be a little bit cool outside.
E. It might be draining outside.
Basic knowledge:
Which room of the house is most polluted?
A. Bedroom
B. Living room
C. Kitchen
D. Toilet |

I've done it twice. It's completely BS, just designed to "verify" that you're an "expert" to get your FEC or something like that. It's just a waste of time though and yeah the questions are completely ridiculous.
It only takes like 10 minutes tho and it's good for a laugh. Nothing to be worried about. |

I did it in 2010 and like others found it 'quaint'.
My advice: Do it seriously and let your FAO know - also seriously, that you've completed the assigned task.
If we all validate their 'masterstroke' they will think that they've made mighty progress and not think up anything more bothersome.
I hope this comment doesn't raise the ire of a poster with few posts and a long username to weigh in with a reprimand for not taking the law of our host nation seriously. |

I don't even know--
17. When learning a foreign language, Chinese students do NOT face which one of these barriers?
[A] Communication obstacles
[B] Sense of inferiority
[C] Fear of making mistakes
[D] Lack of enthusiasm
i went with [b] because it probably is what they wanted to hear.
32. Which one of the following countries shares a border with China?
[A] Japan
[B] South Korea
[C] Philippines
[D] Russia
(considering modern Chinese politics isn't it all of them?) ie, not a "land border" maybe that's what they meant, i went with russia)
33. In China, in case of an argument and dispute between yourself and a salesperson or peddler when shopping, which one of these approaches should NOT be taken?
[A] coordinate with the seller
[B] mediate through the Consumers Association
[C] defame the seller in front of the other consumers
[D] pursue litigation in court
laowai should not make scene. [c]? |

I did that not long ago, was told it was important, for visa I guess. Took about 40 mins. Kinda rushed through it, had lots more time, could have looked up who won China's first gold medal in Beijing or what they eat on a certain holiday, but nah, didn't care. Essay of 200 words I had was advice to give a Chinese person going abroad for study or whatever. Luckily I had a few beers in me. |

I'm surprised that it's still around. I know one person who was required to take it. Apparently, there was supposed to be a video interview afterward, but he blew it off. His FAO wasn't too upset.
Apparently, the young FAO was allowed to take the test for fun too. He got a low score on it. |

These are trick questions!
17. When learning a foreign language, Chinese students do NOT face which one of these barriers?
[A] Communication obstacles
[b] Sense of inferiority
[C] Fear of making mistakes
[D] Lack of enthusiasm
Chinese students enjoy 5000 years of cultural superiority, thus they
face no barriers to learning.
32. Which one of the following countries shares a border with China?
[A] Japan
[b] South Korea
[C] Philippines
[D] Russia
All 'modern' countries are a byproduct of imperialist meddling. all lands
are truly parts of ancient china, thus borders do not exist.
33. In China, in case of an argument and dispute between yourself and a salesperson or peddler when shopping, which one of these approaches should NOT be taken?
[A] coordinate with the seller
[b] mediate through the Consumers Association
[C] defame the seller in front of the other consumers
[D] pursue litigation in court
foreign devils are not to argue with their betters. |
