Just spotted this........thought I would share here.
Does anyone know of this new University?
NB I dont know any of these companies.
ESOL TeacherSaudi Arabia Teaching Positions
We are seeking to fill up to approx 30 ESL and Foundation studies teaching positions to start work in Saudi Arabia by mid-August 2012 in preparation for the new institutes opening in September 2012.
Student profile
A Training Needs Assessment (May-June 2012) will determine the preferred student and curriculum profile. It is likely students who are selected for admission will have starting English levels at beginner level. Students are likely to be high school graduates (18-19 years) and all male. Trainee admissions criteria are still to be confirmed but at this stage will be based on local high school GPA, English tests and interviews. Once selected, students are likely to undertake further placement tests in math, English and science to determine appropriate starting levels. For most, if not all, of the predicted initial student intake, this is likely to be their first exposure to international teaching and learning methods.
Year 1 program
The structure and content of the Year 1 program will be confirmed following the Training Needs Assessment. At this stage, we have been advised it will likely be a mix of general and technical English (relevant to the power utilities sector). There will also be foundation level papers covering key skills (maths, science, health & safety) to prepare students for their Year 2 specialisations. The technical English content will need to prepare students for careers as power service electricians, distribution electricians, distribution network operators, distribution overhead linesman, welding and machining, combined cycle power plant operators, steam and gas power plant operators and instrumentation & control technicians.
The curriculum will be provided from New Zealand, and will involve class-room and online learning. All staff who are selected will be given induction to familiarize themselves with the curriculum prior to the Year 1 start.
Year 1 timetable
The curriculum will be provided in three 14-week trimesters per year (total of 42 teaching weeks per year). Two weeks break will be provided between training trimesters and an extended summer break of four weeks between academic years. There will also be a weeks leave for the two Eid festivals celebrating the end of Ramadan and the Haj.
Expressions of Interest
We are seeking expressions of interest from qualified English language and Foundation studies teachers to fill between 18-30 teaching roles required for a September 2012 start in Saudi Arabia. Due to cultural sensitivities, we are looking only for male teachers and preferably on unaccompanied status. The minimum level of commitment is expected to be for 1 year initially, renewable by mutual agreement.
Eligibility criteria
All candidates will need to be approved by PINZ initially and then validated with the Steering Committee prior to their appointment being confirmed. Candidates will be assessed according to the following criteria:
Bachelors degree from a respected university in the same major that the candidate will be teaching, however candidates with CELTA and DELTA qualifications will also be considered
 Certificate in Teaching
Relevant work experience, minimum of five years post graduation (although levels below 5 yrs will also be considered)
Preferably aged between mid 20s to mid/late 50s, noting that staff will need to be prepared to relocate on unaccompanied status
Two work referees, one of whom must be the candidates current employer, who can be contacted to verify the candidates experience and suitability
Proposed package
All staff are likely to be paid in Saudi Riyals (SAR), which is the local currency and will be sponsored either by PINZ or by the polytechnic for their initial entry and residency visas.
There is currently a maximum gross base salary range of up to SAR300,000 per annum but this amount will depend on a variety of factors, specifically:
Level of qualifications and experience of the individual candidate.
Whether or not commission rates are payable to agents who assist with staff recruitment
Whether the candidate is responsible for any tax obligations in their home country based on income earned overseas. There is currently no income tax in Saudi Arabia.
In addition to base salary, the PINZ package will provide:
Full cost of fully furnished and serviced apartment-style housing, including broadband internet, satellite TV and laundry services.
If coming from out of Saudi Arabia, an initial economy class airfare for arrival and thereafter annual economy class return airfares to staff members point of origin.
 Local health insurance
One-off relocation grant, with the value dependent on point of origin.
All EOIs to provide:
a. Covering Letter indicating reasons for your interest, strengths, constraints around availability.
b. Detailed CV, including copy of references, quals etc (1MB limit or less) CVs in MS Word format.
c. Recent colour photo
d. Scanned Passport bio-data pg
2. Enquiries & applications sent by email to (MOD edit)
3. Deadline is Wednesday 16 May 2012.
(MOD edit to remove application information) |

Beware of scams. With an e-mail in New Zealand I would bet this is a Nigerian scam |

What suggested to me that it might be a scam is this part:
Quote: |
a maximum gross base salary range of up to SAR300,000 per annum |
I find it unusual for an ad to state the "maximum" salary which will certainly end up to be a "bait and switch" as few people are walking into Saudi at 25,000 SAR a month plus the usual benefits.
Another phrase that underwhelmed me was:
Quote: |
The curriculum will be provided from New Zealand, |
Oh goodie... how often have we all seen inappropriate curriculums and materials transferred into the Gulf with negative consequences. But at least they seem to recognize that most students will be at the beginning level.
This one isn't a clear scam though.

They seem to have a contract with the Saudi Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) and not with any university. As for the bennies, that salary is a bit suspect. I hope those interested in applying and who possess the minimum requisite BA/5 years experience don't get all slobbery and googly-eyed by that figure of 300K SAR. It's also odd that the ad states salary is likely to be paid out in riyals. Ah, and then there's the second factor indicated above that might affect the salary. Seriously? Why mention recruiting agents' commissions in a job ad? Is PINZ insinuating that the employee will be directly/indirectly responsible for those costs? |
