If my spouse could work while waiting for the green card it would be OK.
I resent having to fork over a lot of money while waiting years for the green card to arrive.
Considering the backlog, green cards should cost less.

What kind of fees do you mean?
My spouse is not seeking US citizenship, she just wants the right to work in the US.

The visa fees. Just to apply, it costs about $420. Then once you're allowed to actually apply for the visa its' self, it's another $400 or so.

A work visa? Not sure how much that costs to be honest.

Which she will automatically get once she is in the country and you go through the steps related to that. Seriously, have you not read any of the paperwork associated with what you're doing?! It's there, plain as day.

Yeah I know.
I did not know about the cost of getting a green card.
It used to be cheaper.
Getting PR in Japan seems like a bargain at 8,000 yen.

While it can take a few years to get the finalized green card, while it's being processed she can certainly work---my wife did. Again, just read the paperwork!

Got it approved! Went with the wife the other day to the embassy. It was a surprisingly easy interview. They just asked her a few questions like;
How did you meet your husband?
How long have you been married?
How is your English?

Also, just so anyone and everyone knows. You don't, as a spouse need to go to the interview. I was the only one that was there for the spousal visa. Only American spouses there were there with their kids.
