sounds like the flight to and from the US JUST for a medical check is an issue. Anyone with that kind of spare dough, please send it this way...

Sure I have 200 dollars, and if I am able to do a medical for that price I will do it.

I am going to Korea anyway to see friends before China.
BTW, NIT quoted salary 6000.

NIT's airfare is 14,000. Most other schools, 8000.

Yes, the airfare that NIT offers is full airfare. I was send the contract. I took that job. I was looking at a middlee school that paid a little more, but they only pay 1500 for winter break, so if that is igured out, and with only 8000 airfare, that pays less, and has ore hours. So, NIT here I come. Now comes the crummy task of the medical. That has to be done in China, and then fly to Hong Kong for the visa. I am going to check out if I can get the visa in Korea cause I am going there.
Thank you all.

Let us know if NIT pays your airfare to Hong Kong. And if they pay for the visa.

They will pay for the visa and one night in a hotel. Not the airfare to and from Hong Kong. But from the University round trip to get the medical check, they will pay that.

So, I am checking things out. As I said, I am going to go for a few weeks to Korea to visit friends before. So I am having a friend check out if I can get the medical check and the visa in Korea.

But, I just got an email from a friend who is teaching in China, and she said new rules state I must get the visa in my own country. If that is the case woe is me. If I have to do that I will do it.

The job in NIT sounds like it will be a good one. I looked at the campus (I think) and it looked nice. I have no clue.
I have to see exactly the best value for me.

So, here is the latest. I have tospend the money and get the medical check in NY because that is the easiest way. 500 dollars for a medical check is insane. I hope the job is a good one.

This rumor's been going around for a several years. You can still get a work visa in Hong Kong. For a Henan school, I got a work visa in Hong Kong several months ago. For another school in Henan, I got a work visa in Hong Kong a few years ago. And Nanyang is Henan. Apparently, this is a Guangdong province rule.

Well, the very latest news is I just got my medical check here in the USA.
I went to my fathers doctor. Dad just passed away, and the doctor said he loved my dad. Medical check: $160.00 Blood work up $30.00

Only in Asia do they want to know the blood type. Go figure.

Took the job at Nanyang Institute of Technology. I really hope it was the right choice.

Nanyang has two universities. The people running them are friends. I have been in and out of Nanyang many times. It is a farming community. Farmers are honest people. You get ahead in Nanyang by tricking the honest farmers. Foreigners are also looked on as being honest and easily tricked. It's dusty dirty city.

Thanks Brian.
I had seen that Nanyang was a farming community. I like that. As far as dusty and dirty, not thrilled with that one.
Thanks.
Anyway, I sent back the contract, signed, to NIT. Hope the job works out.

Watch out for you electric and water bills. Check and make sure you will get your plane ticket. Don't count on other teachers to tell you the up and up because they are often held hostage over their airfare. The leaders of the school will arrange meetings with buxiban owners. You provide extra income for them because the two universities are the only people allowed to employ foreign teachers. So if you decide to keep a low profile and not do the extra hours you may have a problem.

Brian, have you worked at either one of those schools?
Yes, some extra work is always expected, but not a lot.
I will not be used. I am always polite, and I care, but I not a dish a dish rag.
